Fri 26 Jan

Peterborough Jazz Club is back!

We are delighted to have teamed up with Landmark Theatres to relaunch the Jazz Club at the Key Theatre, Studio. The first concert of the new season will be:

Dave O’Higgins Quintet featuring Martin Shaw

Dave O’Higgins (tenor saxophone), Martin Shaw (trumpet & flugelhorn), Liam Dunachie (piano), Matyas Hofecker (double bass), Joe Dessauer (drums).

The opening concert of the new season at the Club features the classic front line of saxophone and trumpet, with two of the finest jazz musicians on the scene.

Dave O’Higgins has established himself as one of the leading saxophonists of his generation, a dazzling post-bop player with superb technique and a highly developed harmonic sense. He has recorded 24 albums as leader, has been nominated multiple times in the British Jazz Awards, and is a highly regarded jazz educator. Dave also wrote and produced the last Matt Bianco album “Gravity”.

Martin Shaw is widely regarded as one of the leading jazz trumpeters in Europe, with his powerful yet wonderfully melodic fluent playing. As well as playing in many of the top jazz outfits, both in the UK and abroad, he has toured and featured in the bands of Sting, Jamiroquai and Natalie Cole. Martin is currently Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the Royal College of Music, London.

Dave O’Higgins and Martin Shaw have a long musical association, dating back to the 1990’s and the quintet will be playing a selection of great jazz tunes and standards, old and new, backed by a superb rhythm section.
