The Jazz Club are delighted to present another very special concert with a band, only in the UK for a few days, co-led by Vincent Herring, one of the finest alto saxophonists in the history of jazz and acclaimed drummer Joris Dudli. The Septet are on a short European tour and the line up is a blend of USA star saxophonist Vincent Herring and a new face on the New York jazz scene, the young Joey Curreri on trumpet, together with Joris Dudli’s European Band which features the superb tenor saxophonist Gregor Storf. You will hear Dudli’s melodious compositions, along with classic jazz standards, paired with an adventurous playing style making an exciting, bold musical statement.
Vincent Herring is a saxophone virtuoso with a uniquely intense and soulful musical voice. In the 1980’s he first toured Europe and USA with Lionel Hampton’s big band and then worked with Nat Adderley for 9 years. Along the way he has worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Horace Silver and Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers , amongst many other great names in the history of jazz. Top drummer Joris Dudli was in Art Farmer’s Quintet from 1979-85, subsequently relocating to New York, where he played in the bands of Johhny Griffin and Joe Henderson, plus may others. The front line is completed by a new star on the New York scene, trumpeter Joey Curreri and leading European tenor saxophonist Gregor Storf, both appearing in the UK for the first time. When Vincent Herring last appeared at Peterborough Jazz Club, tickets sold out very quickly and with Soul Jazz Septet only in the UK for a couple of days, you are advised to reserve your seats as soon as possible.
