We are very excited to present this fabulous band, led by the brilliant trombonist Mark Nightingale, an award winning giant of British Jazz, who has brought together an all star sextet to the Club. The 20th Century produced a host of great instrumental jazz tunes, written by masters of the idiom, that endure to this day. These are not songs from musicals but handcrafted jazz classics written as vehicles for the greatest improvisers of their day. The sextet will be playing a full programme of these well-known tunes, inventively reimagined for this group led by two of the country’s foremost jazz musicians, Mark Nightingale and Alan Barnes. Barnes and Nightingale are both well established multi award winning soloists but with the addition of young jazz trumpet phenomenon James Davison this becomes a truly formidable front line. The equally star-studded rhythm section comprises Graham Harvey on piano, Jeremy Brown on bass and Ian Thomas on drums. Expect a programme of straight-ahead jazz arrangements flawlessly played with inspired soloing, interspersed with anecdotes and peppered with humour.
